　　Member of Parliament Receives CGA-Canada’s John Leslie Award

　　CGA-Canada (Certified General Accountants Association of Canada) is pleased to announce that Yasmin Ratansi, FCGA, is the John Leslie Award recipient for 2009.

　　Ms. Ratansi, Liberal member of Parliament for the Toronto riding of Don Valley East, earned her CGA designation in 1983, became a CGA-Canada Fellow in 2007 and was named one of the 100 CGAs Who Have Made a Difference in 2008, in honour of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CGA designation.

　　First elected to the House of Commons in 2004, Ms. Ratansi was re-elected in 2006 and 2008. She is the Liberal party’s chair of the standing committee on government operations and estimates. Prior to this she was revenue critic, and chair of the standing committee on the status of women.

　　“The John Leslie Award is one of CGA-Canada’s highest honours,” said Anthony Ariganello, President and CEO of CGA-Canada. “Yasmin’s commitment to the designation and to public service has been outstanding. She is most deserving of this prestigious honour.”

　　“I am honoured to be the recipient of the John Leslie Award for 2009,” said Ms. Ratansi. “To be recognized by my peers is indeed very touching. Though I am at present a Member of Parliament I am also proud to be a certified general accountant.”

　　The John Leslie Award was established in 1988 to honour CGA-Canada’s founder and first president. It recognizes the achievements of exceptional CGAs, and is given to a Certified General Accountant who has achieved national recognition for exceptional service to business, the community, politics, or the arts, or who has overcome physical adversity.
