　　At its 100th anniversary reception yesterday, the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) signed an agreement with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), which provides CRA employees with an opportunity to pre-qualify their work experience as an integral component in obtaining the CGA designation.
 

　　“The leadership that CGAs provide in the field of accounting will help ensure that CRA continues to deliver its excellent quality of service to the Canadian public,” said Anthony Ariganello, President and Chief Executive Officer of CGA-Canada. “Through the terms of the Agreement, CGA students who are employed by CRA are provided a high level of assurance that they will be positioned to acquire the professional experiences they need to meet CGA’s rigorous practical experience standard. Further, it offers greater clarity of the diversity of career paths that CGA students can obtain through employment with CRA.”
 

　　The route to the CGA designation consists of a broadly based education program, meticulous national examinations, professional practical experience, mandatory continuing professional development and adherence to the CGA Code of Ethics. With this solid background, CGAs will improve the skills and competencies demonstrated within the CRA workforce.
 

　　The Agreement sets out the terms, conditions and processes that allow CRA employees enrolled in the CGA Program of Professional Studies to acquire and demonstrate the professional competencies they need to meet CGA’s experience standard for certification.
 

　　“This Agreement is one way of allowing CRA to attract and retain employees, while continuing to provide service excellence to Canadians,” said the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the CRA, William V. Baker. “The CRA is committed to the ongoing development of its employees, and university graduates will be able to both work in CRA and work towards obtaining their CGA professional designation.”
 

　　“The Agreement also opens the door for CGA-Canada and CRA to continue developing future strategic initiatives of mutual value,” concluded Ariganello.

Recognized as the country’s accounting business leaders, CGAs provide strategic counsel, financial leadership, and overall direction to all sectors of the Canadian economy.
 

　　The Association sets standards, develops education programs, publishes professional materials, advocates on public policy issues, and represents CGAs nationally and internationally.
